How to Fix Shopify Price Variants: Complete Step-by-Step Guide

Learn how to fix Shopify price variants with this step-by-step guide. Optimize your product pricing and improve your e-commerce strategy.

Step 1: Download CSV File from Shopify

In your Shopify admin, go to Products and click Export. Select 'All products' and 'CSV for Excel, Numbers, or other spreadsheet programs'. Ensure you have added your variants.

Step 2: Upload CSV File to ProductCSV

Click above and select the CSV file you downloaded from Shopify.

Step 3: Edit Prices

Once uploaded, set pricing surcharge rules for your products. Surcharges are amounts added to the product's base price. You can use fixed amounts ($) or percentages (%).

Important: Products often have multiple options (e.g., size and type). You can set surcharges for each option independently, and they will be combined automatically.

Step 4: Apply Bulk Surcharge Edits

Bulk surcharge editing is a powerful feature that saves you time and ensures pricing consistency across your product variants. Here's why you might need it:

Example: Coffee Bean Store

Imagine you run a coffee store selling various types of coffee beans. Each type comes in different sizes: 250g, 500g, and 1kg.

Your pricing strategy is:

  • 250g is the base price
  • 500g is 80% more than the base price
  • 1kg is 150% more than the base price

Without bulk editing, you'd have to manually calculate and enter the price for each size of every coffee type - a time-consuming and error-prone process.

With bulk surcharge editing, you can quickly apply these pricing rules:

  1. Find the row for the '500g' size option
  2. Enter '80' in the input field
  3. Select the '%' option for a percentage surcharge
  4. Click Apply All

Repeat the process for the '1kg' option with 150%.

This automatically applies the correct surcharge to all 500g and 1kg variants across all your coffee types, ensuring consistent pricing and saving you significant time.

Pro Tip:

You can also use fixed dollar amounts instead of percentages. For example, if you want to add $5 to all 'Whole Bean' options, you would:

  1. Find the 'Whole Bean' option row
  2. Enter '5' in the input field
  3. Select the '$' option
  4. Click Apply All

Step 5: Live Preview Changes

Use the Live Preview feature to see how your product pricing looks from the customer's perspective.

Step 6: Download Updated CSV

Once satisfied with your changes, click the Export CSV button to download your updated product CSV file.

Step 7: Import to Shopify

In your Shopify admin, go to Products and click Import. Select the updated CSV file to apply the changes. Only price information will be updated; all other product details remain the same.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • ProductCSV is a powerful Shopify app designed to simplify the process of managing product variant prices. It allows you to:

    • Bulk edit prices for multiple product variants quickly and easily
    • Apply percentage or fixed amount surcharges to specific variants or groups of variants
    • Preview changes before applying them to your Shopify store
    • Export updated product data back to Shopify-compatible CSV format

It is particularly useful for stores with complex product structures or frequent price updates.

  • ProductCSV integrates seamlessly with your Shopify store in a few simple steps:

    1. Export your product data from Shopify as a CSV file
    2. Upload this CSV to ProductCSV
    3. Use our intuitive interface to make your pricing changes
    4. Download the updated CSV
    5. Import the updated CSV back into your Shopify store

The app does not directly modify your live Shopify data, giving you full control and the ability to review changes before they go live.

  • Currently, ProductCSV is specialized for editing product variant prices. We will be adding more features in the future to support additional product details like inventory, images, and more. If you have specific feature requests, we would love to hear from you! Please reach out to our support team with your suggestions.

  • There is not limit to how many products or variants you can edit and export on ProductCSV. However, Shopify does have a hard limit of 100 variants per product at the time of writing.

  • The surcharge feature allows you to add or subtract from your base product price. You can apply surcharges in two ways:

    • Fixed amount: Add or subtract a specific dollar amount (e.g., +$5 or -$2)
    • Percentage: Increase or decrease by a percentage of the base price (e.g., +10% or -5%)

You can apply these surcharges to individual variants or use our bulk edit feature to apply them to multiple variants at once, making it easy to adjust prices for different sizes, colors, or other attributes.

  • Absolutely! ProductCSV takes data security seriously. We never store your full product data on our servers. The app works with the CSV files you upload and download, which means your sensitive store data remains under your control at all times. Plus, since you are working with exported data and manually importing the results, there is no risk of unintended changes to your live store.
